Don S. Davis ~ Creation Con Chicago 2006

Selmak would like to thank Sela for permission to post her encounter of Don S. Davis from the Chicago 2006 Creation Con and she'd also like to thank BLING for her permission to post her photo of Don. Duplication without the expressed permission of Sela or BLING is strictly prohibited and will cause Selmak to hunt you down and zat you three times. (So Jacob doesn't have to sweep up the mess.)

Hats, Bling and I were sitting in the lobby after the Jason Momoa session and first off we see Jason wandering around talking on his cell phone near the restaurant. As we were quietly squeeing over that, I saw two gentlemen entering the hotel. I don't know how I did it, but I recognised Don Davis from the back of his head and told Bling and Hats, but they were still looking in Jason's direction. Bling and Hats didn't get a good look at Don until he stopped at the front desk - they thought I was still talking about Jason. Don Davis is one of my favorite actors and I was telling them about how personable and warm he is to the fans in person. (I had told Hats about meeting him briefly at a Dallas con over a year ago, and how he had breakfast with a group of fans there. )

One of the reasons we were in the lobby was because I had to check on a shuttle van to the airport for the next day. Right after Don came in, Hats grinned at me and said, "You show go check on your shuttle now and said hi to him." For some reason Hats thinks I have no fear when approaching the actors and in most cases, I don't. I have no problem with approaching them in a respectful manner as I would any other person. Don was one of those cases because he is so nice. So I go to the desk.

Don is standing there waiting for the desk clerk to come over when I walk up and stop a few feet from him like I'm waiting in line. He smiled and said, "Well, Hello there!" like you do when someone you know comes up to you. Well that threw me for a loop because I didn't figure he would remember me from a chance meeting in a hotel gift shop over a year ago. My surprise must have shone in my face because when the lady came up to check him in he apologised because he was talking to this nice lady he knew from before or something to that effect. Again, I was stunned because they meet so many people and he said to me (with the look on my face), "We've met before. Your name is ..... "

At that point, I was completely thrown and said, "Yes, but...you couldn't possibly remember that!"

He then said in the sweetest way with the nicest smile, "Yes I do. I always remember nice people."

Oh!

That was it. I was done for. Honestly, I had tears in my eyes because it was the way he said it. It was so sweet. All I could say was "Thank you".

What I really wanted to do was throw my arms around his neck and hug him to death but fortunately for him (and me) the other desk clerk came over to help me. What a dear, sweet man. Just precious.
